First Nor’Easter
18” x 26”
By C. F. Lawrenson
Nor’easter is a term we use for storms that load up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and carry it up the east coast and into the New England States. When that warm moist air hits the colder air of the northern states, it rises above the colder air mass and the rain it dropped down south turns into snow. When there is little or no wind a nor’easter can sit over the mountains and farm lands of Pennsylvania, New York and the New England Sates and silently drop anywhere from 8 to 20 inches or more of a moist snow that clings to the trees. It can be a beautiful sight to witness. This was the first one of the season in December and this lazy little stream will eventually freeze, but that process is just beginning in the lower left where the water has settled in the stillness of a little pool.
